![]() ![]() Leadership Lehigh Valley is a private, non-sectarian, not-for-profit organization established in 1985 to provide for the community's increasing need for capable volunteer leaders. Through these community leadership programs, selected men and women acquire knowledge on the structure of the community, and explore its strengths, challenges, and resources. In addition, participants gain understanding of the role and operations of non-profit boards, and develop their personal leadership skills. Leadership Lehigh Valley is one of the over 60 identified community leadership programs in Pennsylvania, and works in cooperation with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce and Northampton Community College. Leadership Lehigh Valley is a member of the Community Leadership Association, a worldwide network of over 1,000 programs in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia.
PROGRAMS The ten-month program of regional information and leadership development training is a unique cooperative forum for exploring the issues and challenges that affect the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley. Class members meet one day a month for daylong seminars designed to provide broad exposure to the region's key civic, social, and economic climate. By bringing together existing and emerging leaders, the participants become part of a framework for future networking among graduates and affiliates, as they encounter issues that affect the entire region. Third Age Community Leadership Program This is a program developed specifically for older adults looking to re-engage in community service in a meaningful way. The region's demographic data indicates that there is a significant population over the age of 55 that is expected to continue residing here in their retirement years. People in this demographic, formerly occupied with the demands of raising a family or advancing in a career, now find they have more time to devote to personal interests. The Third Age Community Leadership program is patterned after the core Leadership Lehigh Valley program for working professionals. The Third Age program will help participants assess their skills, abilities, and interests and build on them. Participants will join a class of about 20 to 25 people that meet for a partial day workshop one day a week for seven weeks. They will attend informal meeting sessions that will provide up to date information about the region's assets, challenges, and plans on "quality of life" topics. | |
